A result of balancing the modern sensibilities of our clients with the traditional design restrictions of the neighborhood, this home is a bold interpretation of the traditional Spanish Colonial courtyard archetype. Diagrammatically we envisioned the home as two pitched-roof forms sitting within a traditional arch-lined Spanish courtyard. The shifting of the forms creates trellis-covered outdoor porches at the front and back of the house. The courtyard form becomes a familiar element demarcating the extents of the home as you move through the spaces, extending the living area outdoors.
